Yoga has saved me in more ways than one. I began this journey for the same reasons as many, the physical benefits. However, yoga has taken me on a journey that saved my heart. It has brought me to my true self. I am still uncovering all the layers to let my light shine, but slowly and surely it is happening. "Practice and all is coming..."
Introducing Journey Sessions
When making decisions about my business I always ask, "Does what I am about to do align with my dharma of helping others?" For some time now I have been getting significant internal guidance that I am to do more. For months I meditated, prayed and even wrote about discerning what this was supposed to look like. Two years ago I went through Healing Touch training. I wanted to to incorporate touch into my classes. It became part of my restorative practice to give gentle touch during relaxation poses to facilitate a calming response. Since then, I have also worked privately with family and close friends using touch for stress, pain, grief, illness and injury. It feels very natural to me to provide this without question. To be honest, in the beginning I just wanted people to feel like they were getting an added benefit from their yoga class, but over time it became much more. I have been encouraged by many of my students, friends and family to share this gift.
A Journey Session is a combination of guided meditation, gentle touch and breath work. It is not to be confused with massage, Reiki or any specific energy modality. There are no gurus; no symbols. It is simply touch. The best way for me to describe it would be the feeling of complete relaxation, similar to savasana, with the added benefit of therapeutic touch. My feeling is that all healing is self healing. A Journey Session takes you deeper into a prolonged parasympathetic state so the body can begin the process of healing from the inside.
In our session, you will lie comfortably on a massage table, fully clothed. We begin by assessing what is needed from our session, i.e. pain relief, stress relief or energy to fight illness or injury. I start with a guided meditation to relax the body and then perform a scan of the body using light touch, paying particular attention to any areas discussed during our initial assessment. To complete the touch portion, I move back through the entire body focusing on each energy center, beginning with scalp massage and ending with foot massage, just as I do in class. I end each session with a guided visualization. A Journey Session can last 45 to 75 minutes.
When the body returns to the rest and digest state, anything can happen. Some people have experienced reduced stress and anxiety, pain relief, a greater sense of relaxation and inner peace, easing of grief and depression.

The Heart of Yoga
I will be hosting an afternoon retreat on September 17, from 2:00-4:30. The Heart of Yoga will include meditation, yoga and writing. We will explore the benefits of yoga and how we return to ourselves in the process. This will be for all levels of experience and will provide a deepened sense of the true essence that lives in our heart.

I had the opportunity to experience Journey Session with Jeannine! It started with a guided meditation, freeing the mind of distractions. After gently laying hands, she went back and focused on areas needing additional touch. It is not massaging so much as allowing the hand's heat to penetrate the joint.
